Melissa Brewer was born on September 27, 1972 in Frankfurt, Germany to Bobby R. and Helen J. (Cooper) Sanders. Just after her brother, Jason, was born in 1974, her family moved to Texas, and after short stays in Killeen and Abilene, made San Antonio their home. Melissa graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1991. On December 6, 1997, she married Cliff Brewer at King of Kings Lutheran Church in San Antonio where they found their church home. Melissa quickly became an active church member, and over the years served in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School, helping with Vacation Bible School, and assisting with the children's music ministry. In recent years, Melissa took over the role of post-Sunday service flower arranger. Each week she would go to church on Monday to disassemble the altar flowers and rearrange them into smaller bouquets for shut ins, people who were ill, and anyone who might need a pick-me-up. Countless people were touched by her weekly acts of kindness, and most never knew the person behind the thoughtful giving.
Melissa's hobbies included cooking, baking, home improvement projects, arts and crafts, and adding "bling" to anything and everything she could get her hands on.
Melissa's job history was unique. From school bus driver in Bandera to server at La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, and most recently Quality Control Associate for Kaysa Enterprises, she always worked with a cheerful smile and a spring in her step. Undoubtedly, Melissa's most rewarding and successful "job" was that of mother to her three grown sons, Christopher, Curtis, Cody, and her 11-year-old daughter Cierra. In recent years, Melissa volunteered at Cierra's elementary school and worked with the school PTA on various projects. Melissa was fiercely proud of all of her kids and loved to share pictures and videos with anyone and everyone. In 2013, Melissa became "GB" (Grandma Brewer) to her grandson, Liam, a role she cherished daily.
Melissa was a kind and generous person with a heart bigger than any other. She never met a stranger and was always there for her family and friends. Melissa was never without a smile and her positive and cheerful attitude was contagious. Beautiful, inside and out, is the best way to describe Melissa. Truly loved by all who knew her, Melissa will be sorely missed.
Melissa is survived by her husband, Cliff Brewer; her parents, Bobby R. and Helen J. Sanders; brother, Jason C. Sanders and wife, Christine; three sons, Christopher Glenn Brewer and wife, Yvette, Curtis Edward Brewer, and Cody Elijah Brewer; daughter, Cierra Nichole Brewer; grandson, Liam Kalel Brewer; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
