Melvin was born on June 8, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Melvin L. Kuhn, Sr., and Ellen Nunez Kuhn. He started work at 14 building PT boats at Higgenbotham Boat Builders in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Melvin joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 and later enlisted in the U S Army at the age of 21. He served his country for 20 years retiring as a Master Sergeant during that time. He enjoyed 21 years at Southwestern Motor Transport. Melvin loved to travel and was an avid fisherman and an outstanding role model.
Melvin was preceded in death by the love of his life, Gertrud "Gerti" Angelika Kuhn and son, Jay Kuhn.
He is survived by his son, Corey M. Kuhn (Aleisia); daughter, Cindy M. Tyler; grandchildren, Shane, Matthew, Michael, Sheradon, Emily, Cassie and Lacey; great grandchildren, Charity and Riley and sister, Madeline Whitley.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Porter Loring North.
The graveside service will be Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd.
