Mercedes Gomez Santos

Mercedes Gomez Santos, a beloved and cherished member of the San Antonio community, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on May 17, 1927, Mercedes was known for her kind-hearted nature and her dedication to her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 79 years, Apolonio R. Santos Sr.; her beloved son, Apolonio G. Santos Jr.; her parents, Nicolas Gomez and Anita Rodriguez; her daughter-in-law, Lydia Santos; daughter-in-law, Yolanda D. Santos; son-in-law, Leandro G. Gomez; and granddaughters, Debbie Ann Gomez and Stephanie Marie Kee.

The memory of Ms. Mercedes will forever live in the hearts of her children, Maria S. Lopez, Anita S. Gomez, Juan G. Santos, and Guadalupe S. Calderon; her sons-in-law, Santiago Lopez and George Calderon; and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her legacy forward with love and pride.

Known for her green thumb, Mercedes had a passion for taking care of her plants. Along with her love of all things green, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing in her spare time. Bringing joy to those around her with her lively spirit, she also loved to dance to all types of music, especially cumbias.

Services to honor Mercedes will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home (2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211.) Visitation will take place on January 18, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M., with a Prayer Service scheduled at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Leonard's Catholic Church (8510 S Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78224) on January 19, 2026 at 9:00 A.M., followed by Committal at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209) at 11:00 A.M..
