Michael "Mickey" Byron Penner was born on February 21, 1946 and passed away Friday, June 14, 2002. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964. After graduation, he spent one year with his twin brother at school at the University de Las Americas in Mexico City. He went to Austin where he received his Bachelor of Arts in business from the University of Texas. Their father, Sam, thought it would be wise for both boys to get some retail experience in another setting. He began his career at Rich's department store in Atlanta as an assistant buyer of men's clothing where he worked for two years. He came home and worked in the family business at Todd's, "The Store for Men" for 32 years. He and his family recently sold their business and he began working with his twin brother at Penner's downtown-his lifelong dream for only ten days before he died. Mickey was very athletic and ran in five marathons including San Antonio, Houston, the Marine Corp Marathon in Washigton D.C., and the New York City Marathon. He also completed a fifty-mile run from Kerrville to San Antonio. He served on the San Antonio Academy school board for the past six years. His biggest love was the one that he had for his family. Married at age thirty-five to Marsha on May 24, 1981, they recently celebrated twenty-one years of marriage. Mickey loved playing all sports and taught his sons the games of soccer, basketball, baseball, and ping-pong. He also coached soccer, basketball and baseball at San Antonio Academy for many years. His sons Mitchell and Max plan to train and run in a marathon in memory of their father. Mickey loved life and lived it to its fullest, always waking up happy. His sense of fairness instilled a loyalty in not only his employees, but in everyone that knew him. His memory will live within us forever. His spirit will always be a part of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Marsha Bloom Penner; his sons Mitchell and Max; his twin brother Mark; his sister-in-law Janice; his sister Beryl Greenberg and her husband Herm; his father Sam Penner; mother-in-law Lily Bloom; brothers and sisters-in-law Ronnie and Cheryl Bloom, and Sandy Jackson; nieces and nephews include Millie and Mike Sprintz, Joel and Michelle Greenberg, Matt Penner and Melanie Penner, Julie and Steve Schwartz, and Jay and Theresa Jackson.
