MSG Metro Cheslock, U.S. Army (ret.)

MSG Metro Cheslock, U.S. Army (ret.), passed away January 31, 2013 at age 93. Metro was born on October 30, 1919 in Pittsburg, PA to John & Anna Cheslock. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed. Metro grew up in the small town of Tresckow, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and served throughout World War II. He participated in the battle of Okinawa in April, May and June of 1945. Later military service included several tours at Fort Sam Houston and overseas assignments in Japan, Korea, Germany and Vietnam. He served with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1968-1969; his second tour in Vietnam was with Advisory Team 49 in Long Khanh. After retiring from the Army in 1972, Metro started a second career with CPS Energy, where he worked for eleven years. He was an avid reader and he loved football. He attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church for many years. Metro met his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Farrow Cheslock, in 1938. They were married in 1942 and had two children, James and Molly. Metro was preceded in death by his wife, brothers John and Mike, and sisters Helen, Nancy & Mary.

He is survived by his son, James Cheslock and daughter Molly Cheslock Connelly; five grandsons, Sean Cheslock, James Scott Cheslock (Debbie), Jason Cheslock (Misty), Todd Cheslock (Elizabeth) and Nathan Cheslock (Diane); seven great-grand children, Kendall, Wyatt, Griffin, Charlotte, Dawson, Noah and Charles; his brother Paul Cheslock, sister Pearl Student, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He had a long and good life.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home.

The Graveside Service will be at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery will Full Military Honors. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
