

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of MSGT Jon Dennis Welder, who left this world on September 1st, 2024, in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 80. Jon was born on August 7th, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, and was known for his kind and generous spirit, paired with a quick wit and a great sense of humor that brightened the lives of everyone around him.
Jon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from September 1962 to 1983, retiring as a distinguished Master Sergeant. His service was marked by his unwavering dedication, which earned him numerous military honors, including the prestigious Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and Vietnam Service Medal. Most notably, Jon had the honor of serving on Air Force One, protecting three of our nation's Presidents. His commitment to his country and his fellow service members will forever be remembered.
Jon is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Betty Welder, who stood by his side through life’s many adventures. He leaves behind his son-in-law, Randy Anderson, and cherished granddaughter, Ashley Kuzmic, who will miss his warmth and wisdom dearly. He is also remembered by his cousins, Lori McGraw and Rita McGraw, along with countless friends and fellow servicemen who admired him for the great man and true hero that he was.
Jon’s life was one of service, love, and kindness. He was a man that everyone liked and respected, a true patriot, and a hero to the USA. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the San Antonio Zoo, a place Jon loved and supported.
Rest in peace, Jon. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will live on in the lives you touched.
