December 25, 2958 - February 13, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Murray James “Bubba” Hacker, Jr. passed into eternal rest on February 13, 2026. Born on December 25, 1958, to Murray J. and Sarah Lee “Patty” Townsend Hacker, Bubba was a true Christmas gift to his family. His sister Cherie’s childhood nickname for him, "Bubba," stayed with him throughout a life defined by kindness, generosity, and an adventurous spirit.
A graduate of John Marshall High School and the University of Texas at San Antonio, Bubba was a respected Certified Insurance Counselor. He served as Vice President and later President of Village Insurance Agency. Despite a motorcycle accident on his beloved Harley Davidson that left him paralyzed, Bubba’s determination never wavered; he continued to lead his agency, work out in his home gym, and even went skydiving in 2002. He was a "Mr. South Texas" bodybuilding titleholder who also had a deep love for classic literature, music, movies, and his cherished dogs. On January 5, 2026, he married his longtime friend, Monique, after years that friendship blossomed into love.
Bubba was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mike Hacker. He is survived by his wife, Monique DeClue Hacker; stepdaughter, Giselle DeClue; sisters, Cheryl Hacker Mueller, M.D. (Francis) and Jeanine Marie Hacker Olvera (Chris); sister-in-law, Suzanne Jaimes; uncle Melvin “Buddy” Barron; aunt Evelyn Townsend Graham; niece Alyssa Hacker Salinas (Robert); nephews Brian Mueller (Jeanette), Matthew Mueller (Lauren), Kevin Mueller (Nicole), Christopher Ray Olvera, and William James Olvera; great nieces and nephews Teagan, Keira, Evan, Tate, Kinley, Hewitt, Brooks, Rowan, Nora, and Arthur Mueller. He also leaves behind his devoted best friend, Jeff Rosin and his family. He is also survived by his faithful canine companions Hailey and Tara “Boo Boo” Hacker, and Saber and Maverick DeClue Hacker.
We will fondly remember Bubba for his contagious laughter, big smile, and adventurous spirit. Ever the storyteller, Bubba's life is his greatest and most inspiring story of all.
