She was born on October 14, 1952 in Austin, Texas to parents, Vernon and Audrey Scofield, who preceeded her in death. Nancy is survived by her children, Andrew Johnson and wife Mary, Sam Johnson and wife Amanda, Katherine Lackey and husband Matt; grandchildren, Jacob, Robert, Gregory, Charlie and Reese; brother, John Scofield and wife Holly; and niece and nephew, Sydney and Evan.
Nancy grew up in Austin and loved the music scene and culture of 70’s Austin. She fell in love there with a drummer named Charlie Johnson. They married and had 3 children: Andrew, Sam, and Katherine. They lived in Carrizo Springs, TX and while their marriage did not last she continued her life journey moving to San Antonio in the early 90’s.
Nancy lived in the La Vaca/King William area of downtown San Antonio during the burgeoning art scene at Blue Star and local galleries and bars. She went to college and earned a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) certification from St. Phillips College and would go on to work in home health for 20 years. She remarried to Brian Cobb and together they enjoyed many new experiences together. Nancy was an avid
traveler and had a passion for adventure. She traveled to England, Europe, Canary Islands, Tahiti, Peru, Cuba, British Virgin Islands, and sailing trips in the Carribean. She loved ocean sailing and tropical climates. She traveled many times to French Polynesia and liked getting traditional Tahitian tattoos. She lived in Costa Rica for a few years. Nancy and Brian parted ways, but many great memories were created from traveling and spent with friends.
In her mid-60’s Nancy attended a spiritual retreat which changed her life in many ways. She became a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and attended RCIA classes and joined the Catholic
Church. She loved her newfound faith and journeyed to the Holy Land and Assisi Italy with her boyfriend
William Swift. Sadly, Nancy became ill and was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer shortly before her 67th birthday. She passed away about 8 months later.
Nancy Scofield had a passion for life. She loved artwork, fashion, and being with friends. She never met a stranger and made friends in minutes. May her energy and spirit carry us all in joyful ways.
