Norma Lee Wallace Copeland was born October 6, 1939, to Helen and Everett E. Wallace in Dallas, Texas. Norma went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2024, surrounded by her family. Norma, a graduate of Alamo Heights High School and Trinity University, was a faithful member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where she lovingly served for years.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Daniel Beaty; and her loving husband of 51 years Fred Copeland. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Ramey House of Helotes and Pam and Jim Reynolds of Cibolo; her grandchildren, Sarah Beaty and great-granddaughter, Dani, Mikayla House Killam and husband Austin, Timothy Beaty, and Korey House. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jim Copeland and wife Jean; her sister-in-law, Connie Booth and husband Bryan; in addition to numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews plus a host of close friends.
Norma was a lifelong educator. She shared her love of science with everyone she taught. Her passion for learning inspired many to follow in her footsteps. Norma taught at Holmes High School, Sunset Elementary, Ursuline Academy, and Incarnate Word High School. Norma was always eager to learn something new and pass on that knowledge to someone else. She was a great mentor and friend to her coworkers sharing old-school values while displaying her deep belief in Jesus Christ.
Norma and Fred shared a passion for outdoor activities and were constantly looking for opportunities that allowed them to immerse themselves in nature. They enjoyed spending time on their family ranch in Poth, where they hunted, fished, rode horses, and worked cattle. They often traveled to Rockport for fishing as well as all over south Texas and New Mexico for hunting adventures. Norma was a lifelong lover of nature and all of its mysteries. Closer to home, she was an avid gardener and enthusiastic watcher of wildlife in her neighborhood.
Norma and Fred have been members of Oak Ridge Baptist Church for many years. After her husband's death, Norma spent her free time volunteering at the church. Her selfless nature and cheerful spirit were a welcomed addition to the team. In her time as a volunteer, Norma went on mission trips, attended conferences, helped with the church’s food pantry, and was involved in many other ministries on campus. Whenever anyone needed any assistance, Norma was one of the first to step in and offer to help. Her priority was always to serve selflessly.
Norma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Mommer, as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren, will be missed by many; however, we know heaven is rejoicing in her arrival, and we are thankful that she is no longer dealing with the uncomfortable complications from her recent heart attack.
