Terry Monday, born on March 12, 1930, in Linn Creek, MO, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2022 with his beloved wife, Jo, holding on tightly. He is preceded in death by parents, Gordon Monday and Dorothy Burnham Monday; cherished daughters, Cheri Monday and Shawn Thomas; and sister, Dorothy Bradford.
While living in Japan, at age 17, Terry joined the Merchant Marines which began his love of the sea. During this time, he attained the status of Licensed Seaman Third Mate to sail any ship, any tonnage, any ocean in the world by age 19. He was a Naval Officer and served in the Korean War. His career, which he loved, was spent in Commercial Mortgage Lending and Real Estate. He and Jo were married on September 20, 1975 and began a very happy life. They took many road trips with no itinerary, seeing the country, visiting wonderful art galleries, walking battlegrounds, soaking up history, and of course the beach. They owned a ranch near Hondo for many years where they entertained lots of family and friends, spoiled their beautiful Longhorns, and always had an adventurous new project to undertake. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking ghost rides and teaching them to drive the Jeep and shoot. He enjoyed deer hunting in West Texas for many years.
Terry was an engaging man with many interests that he shared with his family. Time spent with him was time well spent. Terry/Dad/Poppy will be greatly missed by his family, friends and anyone that knew him. Survivors include wife, Jo Monday; son, Rick Harlick; stepdaughter, Sandi Hudson (Joe); son-in-law, Guy Thomas (Cheryl); and grandchildren: Tiffany Saenz, Joshua Leggett, Justin Beard, Matthew Thomas (Lindsey), Sarah Thomas, Joe David Hudson, Jacob Hudson, Diana Kelly (Parker), Jeanene Harlick, and Christie Hamilton (Ian); plus 10 great grandchildren, a cousin, niece, nephews and many friends.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you for the care and respect shown to Terry by Dr. Robert Hays, Dr. Lon Smith, and staff of START CENTER during his long illness, and to the loving care provided by Alamo Hospice.
The family will receive visitors at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2022, with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 pm. A private family gathering will occur at a later date when Terry’s ashes will be returned to his beloved ocean where he will await the return and reunion with Jo.
