Nunzio, often referred to as N.E., was a loving husband of 44 years, father, grandfather (“Papa”), brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and teacher. Nunzio spent the last 7 years surrounded by the laughter of his grandchildren, living with them across San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, and San Antonio.
Nunzio was born in Beaumont, Texas to immigrant parents, Kathleen and James Venza. Nunzio graduated from the University of St. Thomas, continued three years of additional studies in France, and then taught in New York State before returning to Texas, where he met his wife, Anne. After some time in Ireland while studying at University College Dublin, they settled in Houston, Texas, where Nunzio taught at St. Thomas High School for 5 years and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory for 26 years, until he retired at 70.
Nunzio was an avid reader and enjoyed endless discussions on history, spirituality, science, and literature (especially James Joyce). Over the years, he loved visiting Ireland, West Coast road trips from Texas up to Canada, and most often to Galveston (especially with his brother, John, & family). He was an enthusiast of the fine arts, cooking, gourmet meals, and wine, but most often he enjoyed a good ball game with family and friends.
Nunzio is survived by his wife, four daughters (Aisling, Juliet, Felicia, and Cecily), two sons-in-law, five grandchildren, and his brother, Riley.
Ciao, Nunzio, we all love you, and (as he was fond of saying) we’ll see you on the other side. You will be missed dearly.
We will have updates for a Celebration of Life Service in the coming month(s). This celebration will occur in Houston, TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to http://vascularcures.org/.
