Pat graduated from the University of Texas after serving in the Army in World War II. He entered into business with his father at McCarty Brokerage Company. Pat continued to work with his son, Bill McCarty, until Pat's death.
Pat was preceded in death by Jean, his beloved wife of 60 years. Jean and Pat lived in Corpus Christi for 30 years and were longtime members of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
Pat is survived by his children, Bill McCarty, Andrew McCarty and Kathleen Burnside and their spouses, Roberta, Mary and James. He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Pat was an Eagle Scout and was one of the founders of the Corpus Christi Food Bank.
