Patrick Thomas Dempsey, known to friends and family as Pat, was an adventurous spirit who loved good rock and roll and the occasional tequila shot. He passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at his home in Aransas Pass, Texas, while surrounded by generations of family.
He was born March 3, 1955, in San Antonio, Texas, to Hazel Irene Dubose and John English Dempsey. His laugh was contagious, legendary, and could be heard within a mile radius. He carved his own trails as a young, wanderlust teenager who ventured off to California and returned home with a child of his own to raise. Later, Pat reinvented himself as a network guru to provide for his family. Technology ended up being a love that engaged, challenged, and rewarded him over his lifetime.
Pat's partner in life, Peggy, kept him in line and shared many memories of the best beach fishing trips to Port Aransas in their RV. As a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Pat sacrificed all his life to ensure that his family was better off than he was.
Pat loved connecting with his children playing ping pong and Nintendo, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals and driving them around in his 57 Chevy or the back of his motorcycle. He was a bit of a prankster and once cut his hair really short and shaved his beard to surprise the kids. They didn't recognize him, until they did, and then the hugs commenced! His playful spirit lives in each of his children and grandchildren and they'll carry the tradition he's instilled in them: to live life fully, unabashedly. As the ACDC song says: It's a long way to the top, if you want to rock and roll. Pat took the long road and he's definitely sitting at the top with Peggy, his love.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 30 years, Peggy Dempsey; and his son William Bielke. Pat is survived by his children Christine Menefee and husband Bobby, John Dempsey, and Shannon Dempsey; brothers, Mike Dempsey and Dan Dempsey; grandchildren, Chanelle, Jacob, Ailysa, Joli, Bobbie, Marlee, Jax, Allen, Brandon, Natasha, Logan, Kaitlyn, Elizabeth, Ian and Nick; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and a lifetime of friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 11:00 – 12:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
