Paul Douglas Driggers, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on February 14, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born in Washington, D.C. on September 27, 1954 to loving parents, Douglas Earl and Alma Ruth Driggers, who raised him to be a great and kind man that his family and friends knew and loved. While growing up in a modest home in his youth, Paul loved playing stickball with friends and taking his younger siblings to sports games and movies. As a teenager, he excelled at playing the French Horn in the John F. Kennedy High School Band.
He attended the University of Texas at San Antonio and San Antonio College where he received his Associate’s Degree in Nursing, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Accounting.
In his first years as a nurse at the VA Hospital in San Antonio, Paul met the love of his life, Barbara, after enquiring who made the German chocolate cake at a hospital event. They quickly fell in love, and it was just a matter of months before they were married on June 23rd, 1979. Both eventually found themselves at Methodist Hospital where he worked for over four decades. Devoted to his patients and community, he was highly respected and honored.
Paul and Barbara dedicated their lives to raising their three children, Deborah, Douglas and Michael. Paul was an amazing father and role model, demonstrating how to live a life of love and respect. Being a proud grandparent was his favorite role in life. He treasured every minute he spent with his five grandchildren. His daughter, Deborah, gave him three granddaughters: Allexys, Brittney and Kaitlynn; three girls who have grown up to be amazing young women. His son, Douglas and his wife Jessica, have given him two more beautiful grandchildren: Evangeline and Alexander. His biggest smiles came from sharing photos of his grandbabies.
In addition to his family, Paul loved sports. He was a longtime fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. He had a passion for music which has carried on throughout his family. Paul also had a soft spot for his animals, he enjoyed taking his dog Curly to meet their friends at the neighborhood dog park almost every day.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Deborah, and her children: Kaitlynn, Brittney, and Allexys; son, Douglas and his wife, Jessica, and their children: Evangeline and Alexander; son, Michael and his wife, Nikki; and siblings: Mark, Mary, Timothy, and John.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Douglas Earl and Alma Ruth Driggers, and his brothers: Joseph and David.
Paul will always be remembered as a wonderful man who loved his family deeply. Those who knew him will remember him by his soft-spokenness, dry humor with quick wit, and gentle spirit. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, and the love he instilled within them.
