Pedro “Pete” Victor Pompa, 82, passed away peacefully at home on June 20th, 2023, with family lovingly by his side. He was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Maria Imelda Lira and Victor Candelario Pompa on December 14th, 1940. Pedro lived his formative years in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas Mexico with his siblings. At the age of thirteen he moved to the United States with his father. He enrolled in school and graduated from Fox Tech High School (Class of 1960), where he developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for learning. His childhood was an idyllic time in his life, which he recalled fondly.
After high school he joined the Air Force and later the Air National Guard, which enabled him to become a US Citizen. He met the love of his life, Vicky, in 1963 at dance in San Antonio, Texas. They married 6 months later and went on to have 3 children: Peter, Patty, and Pam. After starting a family, Pedro decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a tile setter, learning the trade and its challenges. In 1986 he and Vicky launched a successful commercial tile business, Pompa Tile Inc., and later a restaurant, Vicky’s Cocina.
Pedro was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full of knowledge gained through his love of reading and life experiences: mechanic, fisherman, hunter, contractor – he could fix and build anything. He was a jokester with an amazing memory who told entertaining stories, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration, even in his final days. He touched the lives of so many people. His heart in this world may have failed but his spirit stood strong.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor, his mother Maria Imelda, and his sister San Juanita.Pedro is survived and missed by his loving wife, Victoria Y. Pompa, of 59 years; children, Pedro V. Pompa, Jr. (Rebecca), Patricia Ann Pompa-Aguilar (Abel) and Pamela Marie Shangreaux (Michael).
