Pete M. Chavez

Pete Moya Chavez, a Vietnam Veteran in the U. S. Army, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Pete Moya Chavez was born July 31, 1946, in Seagoville, Texas, son of the late Margarita Moya Chavez and Catarino Vasquez Chavez. As an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, he held important roles while attending churches in the San Antonio area. He was an elder for the San Antonio Spanish Marbach Church, where he assisted in leading song service. As his legacy, he donated a church set of hymnal books, as a way to spread the word of God through song. He was formerly the head deacon at the Scenic Hills Church, where he was the director of song service. He assisted in running Spanish services and helped with the maintenance of the church before and after services. Pete loved music, so naturally his main hobby included playing the trumpet and singing. He performed at various churches as a special musical guest and at local nursing homes as a way to provide missionary work. He was also a health advocate of natural remedies, which allowed him to provide his testimony for the ability to fight off his aggressive stage IV prostate cancer over the course of five years. Pete is survived by his wife, Lynda B. Chavez; his children Seth D. Chavez, and his fiancé Charlin Jones, and Priscilla D. Chavez; his step children Steffanie Wrasse and her husband George Wrasse, and John Salazar; his step grandchildren Isabeau Wrasse, Hannah Wrasse, and Joshua Wrasse; his siblings Marselino Chavez, Dolores Chavez, and Rita Woods. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his siblings Francisco Chavez, Alberto Chavez, Carlos Chavez and Domingo Chavez; and his first wife Jovita D. Chavez. The graveside service and interment with military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 9:45 A.M. followed by a memorial service at 11:30 A.M. at Scenic Hills Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 11223 Bandera Rd.
