Peter Van Alstine, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on August 26, 1941 in Tucson, Arizona to Frank Valdez Van Alstine and Candelania Ahuage. “Grandpa Pete” served as 1st Sergeant in the US Army in the Vietnam War and spent years travelling the country and various places in Europe. He attended college later in life and graduated with high honors. His government service did not end with the Army and he served as a civil servant for over 20 years.
Grandpa enjoyed spending his time outside in the yard gardening. He loved watching classic westerns, listening to oldies in both Spanish and English, reading his newspapers and telling stories about his adventures in Europe and Alaska. Grandpa Pete was a man of faith and never missed Mass, he lived his life every day with kindness and perseverance. He was truly a man who his family and friends are proud to know and remember, he will be missed greatly. Grandpa Pete loved his family and was one to help whenever he could. Though he was the quiet one… probably napping on the sofa, Grandpa Pete was the cornerstone of the family. Because of the strength, courage and quiet determination he carried, he taught our family that big dreams are attainable with planning, hard work and thinking ahead.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rene Van Alstine. Peter is survived by his wife, Hope Van Alstine; daughters, Hope Diane Boroch (James) and Denise Caraballo (Mike); grandsons, Jerry Boroch, Peter Boroch (Christina), Nathan Caraballo (Danielle Litzen), Anthony ‘Tony’ Caraballo; granddaughters, Nicole Caraballo (Carlos Adame) and Alaina ‘Laney’ Caraballo; great-grandchildren, Kimberly Boroch, Violet Boroch, Ethan Adame, Adrian Adame, and Mateo Adame; brothers, Rudy Van Alstine and Frank Van Alstine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
