Phyl lived a multifaceted and adventurous life. Born and raised in San Antonio, she traveled widely and lived in far-away places, but always called San Antonio “home.” A skilled restorationist and designer, she was passionate about historic preservation. Phyl was a gourmet chef, avid reader, and great lover of the sea and beachcombing. The true center of her life was her Catholic faith and daily Eucharist. As a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, Phyl was devoted to the Body of Christ especially visible in the poor, needy, elderly and infirm, to whom she ministered faithfully, while maintaining a personal lifestyle of voluntary poverty and simplicity in the Franciscan tradition. Her days were a mix of fervent prayer and active service to others. With a keen wit and humorous personality, even in the midst of extreme pain and illness that marked her final years, Phyl gave encouragement and good cheer to all who crossed her path. She was a woman of determination, strength, courage and perseverance who challenged and inspired the many people whose lives she touched.
