

She is survived by her daughter Dr. Lynnea S. Wright, San Antonio; her son, Bryan D. Wright, and daughter in law, Karen Russi Wright, Charlottesville, VA; three grand daughters: Marguerite Celeste R. Wright, Boston, MA, Madeleine S. Wright, Evanston, IL, and Alice E. Wright, Richmond, VA; and her older bother Dr. Richard Mathews, D.D.S., Sun City, AZ and youngest brother Calvin Mathews, Anacortes, WA.
Phyllis's kind, giving, and most loving spirit will be immensely missed by her family and friends. Phyllis was born August 18, 1923, to E. S. Mathews and Marguerite (Russell) Mathews in Stockton, IL.
Phyllis spent her early years in Alberta, Canada with her parents and three brothers. She was a pastor's daughter and from an early age she was a gifted pianist and soprano soloist in the church choir. She served the Lord as church pianist for many years.
Phyllis graduated from Olivet Nazarene College becoming a Registered Radiological Technician at South Chicago Community Hospital. After rearing her two children as a full time Mom, Phyllis re-entered the medical field as a Registered Radiological Technologist in the office of Dr. Richard Nitschke until her retirement in 1990. Phyllis always dedicated her life to caring for others.
Phyllis reveled in her personal relationships with her family and friends and was often found spontaneously playing the piano and rejoicing in song. She and her husband Paul enjoyed singing in Castle Hills First Baptist Church Senior Choir.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Paul Wesley Wright; her parents; and her brother, James E. Mathews, Denver, CO.
Her inurnment beside her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery will be private and a memorial service in her honor will be scheduled at a later date.
Phyllis's family is most grateful to Ben and Jeanette Negru of Regency Home Care for their compassionate care of Phyllis and Paul during their last days. We also thank Drs. Stephen Cohen and Paul Smith for the long term care of Phyllis and Paul as well as Debbie Garcia and staff of Associates Home Health Agency for their kind and well coordinated attention to Phyllis and Paul.
