He was a graduate of Duke University and Thomas Jefferson Medical University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Col. Lackay was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor where he witnessed the actual attack coming over Kole Kole Pass and the bombing of Hickam and Wheeler Air Force Base. He sent out the first ambulance response to aid the wounded after the attack. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1969.
Col. Lackay is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Laura Jane Cooke Lackay; his daughters, Joan Scott of Boulder, Colorado and Barbara Lackay Ruder and husband, Dr. Michael Ruder of Atherton, California; five grandchildren, Hannah Mills of Boulder, Colorado, Laura Ruder, Ben Ruder, Will Ruder, and Sam Ruder all of Atherton, California; his brother, Ted Polk and wife, Nancy of Magnolia, Arkansas; two nephews, one niece and many friends who will all miss him.
