Randy was born in Spokane, Washington to Roberta and Ronnie McCumbers.
He served in the Navy from 1979 to 1994 onboard the USS Atlanta SSN 712, on hunter fast attacks, and ballistic missile submarines.
After the Navy, Randall joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1994 with class 94A. He served as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for several years and has trained over two-thousand five hundred officers on the department.
Over the years, Randy taught Skills, Firearms, and primarily Driving Instruction at the Police Academy. He had a passion for teaching, and particularly loved coordinating the Citizen's Police Academy. There was never a night at CPA that he didn't start with a dad joke or a silly icebreaker.
Randy loved motorcycles, firearms, card games, and country road trips with his wife. Most of all, he loved his family and his three dogs. He did everything for everyone and never asked for anything in return.
In August of 2024, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Randy was a strong, tenacious fighter and will be greatly missed. He lived his life on his own terms until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roberta and Ronnie McCumbers. Randy is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gina, his daughter, Brei, his son, Zac, and his brothers, Richard, Rodger, and Ron.
