Raphael was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and family man whose kindness and generosity touched everyone who knew him. He had a deep love for life’s simple joys, including taking car rides, working on cars, visiting flea markets, and barbecuing for family and friends. Some of his most cherished moments were spent feeding ducks at Woodlawn Lake with his grandbaby. Raphael was known for his big heart—always willing to take people where they needed to go and never hesitating to buy a meal for someone in need.
He is reunited in heaven with his paternal grandparents, of the Gutierrez and Gaitan families; his father, Tomas Ferdin Gaitan; his father-in-law, Francisco Cardenas, his brother, Alfredo Fernando Gaitan; his sister-in-law, Sonia; his son, Gabriel Aaron Gaitan; and his daughter, Arabella Valencia Cardenas-Gaitan.
Raphael is survived by his loving mother, Rebecca Gaitan; his devoted spouse, Linda Cardenas; his children, Raphael Joseph, Matthew, Abraham, and Margarita; and his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Aurora, Tommy, Rebecca Lorane, Sandra, Eva, and Richard, along with their spouses, and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.
Raphael’s legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, located at 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237, on January 31, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm.
