'Andy and I have many fond memories from many different times spent with Rene, Sr. and the Garcia family through the years. Losing him was never something we ever anticipated, much less considered. Our lives were enriched by knowing him and being privileged to be a part of his "captive" audience whenever he needed one. We will miss him terribly, but one thing is certain...we will never forget him. May G-d keep him close to His side from this day forward and may G-d also grant the entire Garcia (and extended family) much needed comfort during this time of extreme grief.'

'Ellie, Rene Jr, and Becki: During the decade of the 80's, it was an honor being neighbors with your family on 17th Street. My young son, Michael Gonzalez, was always treated respectfully by Ellie and Rene Sr; on 17th St., our kids were safe and had fun and laughed; birthday parties and Halloweens in the neighborhood were too fun! Once, Michael batted his baseball into the Garcia's front picture window - the baseball had the initials "MAG" on it. I do not know who paid for the Garcia's window to be fixed, but do remember Rene Sr. bringing the evidence to me & Michael, and joking all the time about it - he could have been furious at me and Michael, but was not - he was kind and joked about the baseball with the initials on it. Although both of our families moved from the neighborhood, we kept in touch. I especially remember how Rene Sr, Ellie and the kids shared a love for tennis, and this shared sport and their shared successes made them "celebrities" in our neighborhood and beyond. With Rene Sr. in heaven now, the words "neighborhood and beyond" take on an expanded meaning. Condolences and prayers from us - your neighbors/friends.'
