Rene Gonzales Martinez

Rene proudly served in the United States Army for 27 years, completing numerous deployments to Saudi Arabia and Iraq. A highly skilled mechanic, he devoted his military career to repairing and maintaining equipment, ensuring that those he served alongside could carry out their missions safely. His skill with engines extended far beyond the Army—Rene could fix anything with a motor and was happiest when working outdoors, tools in hand.

He had a warm connection with animals, often talking to them as if they understood every word, and he found joy in watching science fiction movies and shows. He also had a green thumb, anything he planted would grow. Above all, Rene loved helping others and cherished every moment spent with his family.

Rene is preceded in death by his mother, Olivia G. Martinez, and his cousin, Marcos Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife, Andrea G. Martinez; his children, Christopher Rene Martinez (Sasha Ivana), Francisco J. Garza Carreon (Cristal Michele), Renel Nicole Martinez (Matt Brown), Jessica Ann Villarreal (Anthony), Ashley LeAnn Martinez (Edgar Calixto) and Rene Julian Martinez; 15 grandchildren; his siblings, Martin Martinez, Mary Jane Martinez and Ramona Martinez; Dad Enrique Martinez; favorite uncle Danny Martinez (Dora) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends.

Rene will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, generous spirit, and the deep love he had for his family. His life was a testament to service—both to his country and to those fortunate enough to know him.

A visitation for Rene will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. A rosary will occur Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. A funeral mass will occur Friday, August 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Gabriel Catholic Church, 747 SW 39th St, San Antonio, TX 78237.
