

Richard "Rick" Leslie Emery was born January 22, 1950 in Texas City, TX to parents Durward Leslie Emery and Helen Redding Emery. Rick was the second of three children, including his older sister, Glynda Emery Wilkins, and his younger sister, Carol Emery Hartley. Rick died suddenly on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the age of 60 while on a business trip to California.
Rick graduated from high school in Port Lavaca, TX in 1968. He continued his education at the University of Houston earning a Bachelor's degree in Economics in 1972. After leaving the University of Houston, Rick never gave up his personal pursuit of education through self-studies primarily in the fields of history and theology.
During his studies at the University of Houston, Rick met and fell in love with Donna Schmidt. They were married on August 15, 1970 and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They had two children, Sadie Lynn Emery and Daniel Leslie Emery.
Rick was a United Methodist who believed that mission and outreach work were part of his calling from God. While living in Brenham, Texas, Rick participated in two mission trips to Haiti and led five mission teams to Belize. In both places, he worked on building improvements for Methodist churches and schools. Rick also worked on building projects at Faith Mission in Brenham. After moving to San Antonio with his family in 1997, he got involved with Woman at the Well House and helped improve their facilities. He was totally committed to a weekly Bible Study group that formed out of Travis Park United Methodist Church.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Durward Leslie Emery, and his father-in-law, Merle Aubrey Schmidt. He is survived by his wife, Donna Emery; daughter, Sadie Lynn Emery; son, Daniel Leslie Emery and his wife, Keely Van Brocklin Emery; two adorable grandchildren, Zoe Angeline Emery and Finnegan Leslie Emery; his mother, Helen Redding Emery; sisters, Glynda Emery Wilkins and Carol Emery Hartley; nephew, Jeremy Bowers and his wife, Carrie; mother-in-law, Bernice Schmidt; sister-in-law, Sharan McBride and her husband, William "Bill" McBride; sister-in-law, Malinda Schmidt; nephew, James "Jimmy" Dee, and numerous aunts and cousins and friends.
His cremated remains will be returned from California at a later date.
