

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard David Hoppstetter II, age 76, after a long illness. Richard was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 19, 1948 to the late Richard David Hoppstetter and Lucille Bristow Hoppstetter.
Richard’s life was full of great experiences and accomplishments. As a young boy, he excelled in competition water skiing. His greatest skills were jumping and tricks. Skiing and boating remained an important part of his life. After graduating in 1966 from Robert E Lee High School in San Antonio, he earned a BBA from The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. After graduation, Richard and Sally married on August 27, 1971 in San Antonio after a long relationship dating back to their high school years. Richard began working for his father’s business, Hoppstetter Foods, eventually becoming Vice President and General Manager. Later, he served as Director of Profit Management for Sysco Foods of South Central Texas. He was known for his ability to understand a big picture view of operating a successful business.
In his free time, Richard enjoyed boating and waterskiing with his wife and friends at Medina Lake, relaxing at the beach in Port Aransas, and hiking, camping and backpacking in Big Bend National Park and New Mexico. He loved the Texas Hill Country, Longhorn football, classic rock music, off road racing, boats, and cars.
Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sally Brinkley Hoppstetter; son, David Fredric Hoppstetter; grandson, David Fredric Hoppstetter II; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hoppstetter; sister, Linda Dalonas and husband George; sister, Luanna Hoppstetter; brothers and sisters in-law Fred Brinkley and Debra Smith, Gary and Daisy Brinkley, Steve and Carol Brinkley; nieces and nephews, Christi Straube (Erik), Tina Dalonas, Gina Bauerle, Jon Brinkley, Angela Brinkley, Ted Brinkley (Nancy), Greg Brinkley (Leia), James Brinkley, Melissa Long (Joey); and many great nieces and nephews.
Richard spent the last two years of his life at Brookdale Nacogdoches. The family would like to recognize the special care he received there and express our gratitude to the entire staff, especially the caregivers. We wish you the very best! The family would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Suncrest Hospice for their comfort and care of Richard and family.
