Richard was born July 28, 1944 in Houston, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Jo Lynn Monroe. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage and loved to travel the world. Richard started his own business, Industrial Systems, Inc. in February of 1974. He later went on to start another company, Computer Support, Inc., both of which are still successful businesses today. Richard was very involved in his community. He was a founding member and President of the Governors Club, a founding member and President of the Olmos Kiwanis Club, a member of the Lions Club, Downtown Rotary, Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC), and a life member of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). He was also a Spurs Legend season ticket member for 42 years.
His love of cars got him involved in the Big Boys Toys car club. He loved riding his 4 wheel ATV around his ranch with his longhorns. He and his son Rick erected a 40' windmill on the property. He was immediately loved and respected by all those who met him. He will be lovingly remembered for his magnetic personality, amazing sense of humor, kindness, generosity, warm heart, and playful spirit but most of all his loyalty to his family and friends. We are thankful to our Loving God for the time we had with Richard. We will always cherish his wonderful and mischievous smile, twinkling blue eyes, laughing voice, boyish playfulness, and his love and beautiful memories.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Powell and brother, James H. Powell, II.
Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jo Lynn Powell; son, Richard C. Powell II and his wife, Tammy; daughter, Kimberly A. Powell Voigt and husband, Trent; brother, Michael T. Powell; grandchildren, Kaitlynn Powell, Richard Powell III, James Powell, Connor Voigt and Carson Voigt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
