Robbie, Robbie Gene, Mom, Momo went home to be with her Lord and Savior after 93 ½ years of showing everyone around her what it means to love and to be loved by Jesus Christ. Robbie was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Jenkins, Father Johnny Sutherland, Mother Sue Fann Sutherland, brother JW Sutherland and sister Marguerite Clower. Mom is survived by daughter Judy Langford and husband Mike, son Clyde Jenkins and wife Cindy, son John Jenkins and wife Alecia, and son Ron Jenkins and wife Robyn. Momo is survived by grandchildren Scott Langford and wife Kacie, Erin Langford, Katie Weston and husband Matt, Chris Jenkins and wife Amanda, Matt Jenkins, Jenny Nuccio and husband Sean, Shannon Jenkins, Shayla Winslett and husband Scott, John Jenkins, Austin Jenkins, Cameron Jenkins and wife Courtney, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members that all experienced her amazing and faithful love.
Robbie was born and raised in Alice, Texas and was voted Best All Around Girl her senior year of High School. She followed in her brother and sister’s footsteps in attending the University of Texas and bled orange her whole life. She loved UT sports but loved her grandkids enough to don the Maroon for Aggie events. After earning an accounting degree from UT she returned to Alice and began dating a young man who also returned home after serving in the Navy during the war. Robbie and Clyde Jenkins were wed on June 24, 1950 and were married for 37 years until his death in 1987. They had Judy, Clyde and John in Alice and moved to San Antonio in 1959 and completed their family with the birth of Ron in 1961. Robbie worked as a stenographer and bookkeeper in Alice and had a long and successful accounting and bookkeeping career in San Antonio.
Robbie was an early and faithful member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. She was the ultimate volunteer that took on every task and role asked of her. Robbie and daughter Judy together attended Emmaus Walk #114 in 1989 and subsequently sponsored multiple pilgrims on their walks. The number of Candlelight Vigils, Potluck Dinners, Vacation Bible Studies, Women’s Circle Meetings, Agape Volunteer time and any other church meeting or Bible Study you could think of would be too many to count. She was always available to drive friends anywhere, anytime they needed something. She was the one you could always count on.
Robbie loved to travel and had an adventuresome spirit. She would go fishing and hunting and even ride bikes with her beloved Clyde and later in life she would travel extensively. Favorite memories were celebrating her 80th birthday in New York and visiting cousins and friends in Vegas for some slot machine time. Robbie loved music and musicals and we all knew not to ever schedule anything in conflict with playing the Handbells at church. You also knew never to call during a Spurs game. She loved to read and always had a good mystery with her, wherever she went.
Robbie loved family and really loved those babies. She made everyone feel special and know they were loved. She proudly attended any sporting event, musical production, school play or award ceremony and managed to make every graduation ceremony. Her greatest attribute was the ability to make each of us feel like we were her favorite.
Most of all Robbie loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a true Angel on Earth, and she lived deeply into her faith each and every day. There was a great celebration in heaven as she joined the great cloud of witnesses and heard her Lord say, “well done good and faithful servant”.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Robbie’s life and legacy will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 2738 MacArthur View, San Antonio, TX 78217.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Robbie’s name to either St. Matthews United Methodist Church, https://stmatthewsumc.wpengine.com/donate/, or to Imani Collective, https://imanicollective.networkforgood.com/projects/108983-general-holistic-funds.
