Robert A. Bobby Freeman

Robert Anderson Bobby Freeman passed away April 27, 2002 in San Antonio. He was born November 6, 1922 in Galveston, Texas to Silas Denman Freeman and Edith Bates Freeman. He was married to Bobbie Greene Futch Freeman for 57 wonderful and exciting years. He is deeply missed by his daughter Carol Sebesta and husband John of Angleton, and his four sons, Robert F. of Corpus Christi, Steve of Texas City, Mark and wife Pam and Matt and wife Julie of San Antonio; eleven grandchildren, Dennis, Craig, Chris, Ty, Lindsey, Stephanie, Shae, Mollee and Lia Freeman and Tara Wandel and Amanda Oliver; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren blessed him as he blessed everyone who knew him. He is also survived by brother, Silas D. "Cotton" of Bryan and sister, Doris Cunningham, of Sweeney. Bobby grew up in West Columbia and, from 1951 to 1989, lived in Lake Jackson, where he and Bobbie raised their family of four sons, and a daughter. He was deeply loved and respected by all those who knew him. The lives he touched as a husband, friend, neighbor, business associate, Sunday school and church member, coach or just Dad of one of the Freeman kids will always remember and miss him. He leaves behind many lasting legacies in Lake Jackson including the first Little League field which he helped build and the Explorer boxing posts that saw many boxers, including his son, rise to the very highest levels of national amateur and professional boxing. Bobby graduated from West Columbia High School and attended Rice University. He joined Dow Chemical in 1941, rising from a laborer to a glassblower to a mechanical engineer. He worked at Dow for 42 years, retiring in 1982, and was honored numerous times including being named the company's first National Power Consultant. His career carried him around the world and the travels of Bobby and Bobbie, the places seen and people they met, are forever treasured. He will truly be missed around the world. To his day there are still taxicab drivers in Europe that ask Dow people if they know Bobby Freeman.
