Robert was a smart, charming man who always had a smile for a friend. He was greatly admired and will be greatly missed. His brave outlook on life gives us all an example to follow.

I was shocked to read of Mr. Oliver's passing. What a kind gentleman. He was someone I truly admired. My life is more fulfilled for having known him. May he rest in peace. God bless you and your families.

Working with the Cavender family since the late 70's, I had the occasion to meet Robert and visit with him many times over the years. He was always a classy, kind, and cheerful gentleman that was a pleasure to meet and visit with. 
I know that his family and many friends will miss him dearly.

Robert Oliver was a life-long friend of ours. He and Shirley were our Sunday school teachers as young adults, before we were married. That was 42 years ago. Prior to our wedding, Robert & Shirley feted Faye and me in their home with a couple?s shower. Ellen was the flower girl in our wedding. Over the years, through Christmas cards, phone calls and the like, we kept in touch. One of the things that always struck us was that it was always ?Robert & Shirley?. Just like salt & pepper or cream & sugar! I was always touched by the way Robert would guide Shirley through a crowd. Hand on her lower back, both of them catching gazes of both recognition and admiration! A magnificent couple who left a rich legacy for all of us to emulate! A quote attributed to Frank Sherman Land, the founder of DeMolay, says it best! ?In a hundred years, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, in what kind of house I lived, or how much money I made. The thing that will matter most is that I made a difference in the life of a child?! Robert Oliver surely made a difference in our life!

Due to the fact I must use a walker, I was unable to attend the serve today. One of my recent memories of Robert waswhen Shirley and I were both realtors and I had made an appointment to show their beautiful home in Alamo Heights. Due to a miscomunication they were both home which was sort of a n no in real estate. Anyway Robert greeted my client an me with his usual engaging smile. I nver saw him without a smile although I'm sure he hurt a lot.He was truly a profile in courage and we will miss him.We send our love to Shirley and especially his devoted daughter Ellenwho made his life full of pleasure and joy.
