

Bob Richmond was a teacher in San Antonio schools for 28 years. Arriving in San Antonio in 1967, Bob's first assignment as an Army Second Lieutenant, having just graduated from Infantry Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, was at Fourth US Army Headquarters at Fort Sam Houston where he served as Chief of the Casualty Branch for the next two years.
After separating from the Army in December of 1969, Bob taught in various schools in San Antonio: TMI, Alamo Heights High School, Churchill High School, Madison High School, Bradley Middle School, and Burbank High School.
In addition to his public-school teaching, Bob had taught English and Speech at UTSA, St. Mary's University, and Incarnate Word College. In 1989 he accepted a position as Instructor of English at Palo Alto College, one of five colleges that are part of the Alamo Community College system. He taught at Palo Alto College from 1989 to 2012.
Bob was a training instructor for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). He taught courses throughout the Southwest, including courses in Proofreading, Letter Writing for Managers, Memory Training, Speed Reading, Technical Writing, and Basic Oral and Written Communication. He taught for Stanley Kaplan, the SAT Preparation Company, and taught Performance Reading for Thinking Dynamics.
Bob was the Educational Columnist for the San Antonio Light for ten years (1983-1993). In 1990 and 1991 he was nominated by the editor of the Light for a Pulitzer Prize in the category of Commentary.
He also worked as a radio talk-show host for KRNN (93 am) in 1988 and was a frequent moderator of the TV news roundtable, San Antonio Week in Review, which was televised at 9:00 pm on Friday evenings on KLRN.
For over 20 years, Bob worked as a volunteer for the Academy of Learning in Retirement (ALIR) where he taught Memoir Writing.
He held three degrees: a B.A. in Philosophy from Cardinal Glennon College (1965) in St. Louis; an M.A. in English from St. Mary's University (1970), and an M.A. in English as a Second Language from UTSA (1980).
He was an avid tennis and soccer player for over twenty years in the San Antonio Soccer Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as a brother, Fr. Joseph J. Richmond. Bob is survived by his son, John Richmond; grandson, Xavier Robert Richmond; his dear friend, Hector Murillo; brothers, Thomas Richmond (Mary); John T. Richmond (Barbara), and various nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough. A Rosary begins at 7:00 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
Interment with Army Honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
