

Robert Martin Steinke, age 75, of San Antonio, was called to his heavenly home with Jesus on November 20, 2002. He was born September 23, 1927 in a farm home near Sigourney, Iowa, to Robert and Minnie Schreiber Steinke. Robert was baptized at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church in What Cheer, Iowa, by Pastor William Schreiber. He was confirmed in August 1941 by Pastor Theodore Gutknecht. Robert attended grade school and high school at Gibson, Iowa, and graduated from Gibson High School in 1946. Robert attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota for two years and one year pre-seminary at Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin, finishing in 1952. Robert served in the Army for two years at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1945. Robert was married to Mary Hallstein on July 29, 1962, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Clark, South Dakota. They lived in the Gibson area where he farmed until 1979 when he and his family moved to San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ona Wiersma of Mansfield, Ohio, and Ruth Rhame of Clinton, Iowa; and one brother, Walter, of Gibson, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Mary; five sons, David, John, and Daniel of San Antonio, Paul of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and Nathan of Austin; daughter, Sara Goeke of Fairbanks, Alaska; three grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Bittorf of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, and Lena Richard Burgdorf of Scroggins, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
