Robert R. Swaney Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, loyal brother, and distinguished veteran, passed away peacefully on November 29th, 2025, and entered his eternal rest in heaven. He leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, and service that will forever be remembered by those who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvette Swaney; his daughters, Angela Padilla (Steven) and Amanda Carmona (Marco); and his treasured grandchildren, Rey Vega, Zoe & Ivy Padilla, Tony, Luna, and Xander Carmona. He is also survived by his sisters Karen Klemeco (Chris), Kelly Shoemaker (Redford), and Lori Swaney, as well as his brother Chris Swaney (Kim).
Throughout his remarkable 30-year military career, he served as a mentor, leader, and inspiration to countless individuals. His dedication and excellence earned him the honor of becoming First Sergeant of the Year, and he proudly rose to the rank of Chief, the highest rank he could achieve. He also achieved his dream job of being a Command Chief Master Sergeant at RAFB, a testament to his integrity, commitment, and outstanding leadership.
After retiring from the Air Force, Robert continued his life of service in the Department of Defense. He went on to become the Deputy Director of the Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP) and ultimately retired as the Director of the Defense Civilian Emerging Leader Program (DCELP). Through these roles, he continued to shape, guide, and inspire the next generation of civilian leaders, leaving yet another lasting imprint on those he mentored.
To his family, he was a source of unwavering love, strength, and guidance. To his friends and colleagues, he was respected, admired, and deeply appreciated. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shine through those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He will be profoundly missed, but we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace in heaven.
A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd.
