

Roberta was a Minnesota State Debating Champion and an Honor Graduate of Denfield High. After graduating from Duluth Junior College, she joined the United States Navy W.A.V.E.S..
Serving in WWII as a Tower Operator, Roberta was eventually stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, which led her to meet the love of her life, Naval Aviator Bernie Sanders. They were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1946. Their devoted and loving 60 plus year marriage was filled with family, friends and worldwide travel.
She was a member of Alamo Heights Methodist Church and Navy Officer Wives Club, a volunteer for the Methodist Hospital Bluebird Auxiliary, and a member of the W.A.V.E.S. National. Roberta was employed in the Legal Counsel office of USAA for ten years.
In 2006 she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Sanders.
Roberta is survived by her children, Bernie, Jr. Kathy, Jane Sanders Martin, John Geri; seven grandchildren; two grandson-in-laws; one great-grandchild; her sister, Jean Patrick; brother-in-law, Joe Sanders and many nieces and nephews and their families.
