

Roberto was born in Kingsville, Texas to Gebardo and Alicia Garza on December 24, 1942. He attended schools in Kingsville and graduated from King High school. He married Magalis Palacio on July 29, 2006. He received his Bachelor's degree from Texas A&I college (Texas A&M University Kingsville) and received his Ph.D in Philosophy of Geography at the University of Colorado. He worked as a Professor of Geography and Geology at San Antonio college for a number of decades as well as several years as Dean for the Evening Classes. He also did College for Kids several summers at SAC. He taught in Minnesota for a year as well as University of Houston Downtown for a number of years before returning to San Antonio. He also served several years as a Park Ranger at Rocky Mountain National Park and others during summer. He also worked as a Real Estate agent for Century 21. He served in the Naval Reserve and later four years in the Air Force.
Roberto is preceded in death by his parents; Alicia and Gebardo Garza, and his younger brother, Carlos Garza.
Roberto is survived by his first wife, Rose Maria T. Phillips, his second wife, Magalis P. Garza, his son, Bobby Garza, his sisters Alicia G. Torres (Husband Guadalupe), Gloria Garza, and Margarita Garza. His granddaughter Hope S. Garza. His nephews Walter Dominguez, Jonathan and Oscar Torres, and his niece, Melissa Woods (Husband Patrick) as well as nephews and nieces of his wife; and the mother of his son, Rose Maria T. Phillips.
Rosary will be held at 9:30am with Mass soon after on April 30th, 2026 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 7893 Grissom Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78251.
Burial will be at 2:30pm at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum 17501 Nacogdoches Road San Antonio, Texas 78266.
Memorial may be given to The Cancer Society. The family of Roberto wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Magalis' sisters; Ludie Alonso and Rosalva Palacio.
