Rowena Elizabeth Cargile Calhoun was born in Peoria, Texas, August 28, 1924 to Ross Cargile and Maggie Lavesta Bledsoe Cargile. She married Dan Calhoun in 1943. She graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. Rowena resigned from teaching in the summer of 1969, having taught for sixteen years, twelve of which were at Cambridge Elementary School in Alamo Heights. Rowena was active in several Women's Clubs and Teacher's Organizations,
including Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed playing Bridge but had a special life-long love of tennis, which she played until 2010. Rowena is survived by son, Ron and wife, Mary; daughter, Phyllis and husband, Dennis Millirons; seven grand-daughters; eight great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
