Ruben Herrera

Ruben Herrera, born in Papalote, Texas on July 5, 1955, has passed away on August 2, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Ruben was 68 years old, and he battled cancer and fought with determination to live until the very end.

Ruben was a father of three, grandfather and great grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a Certified Diesel Mechanic by trade during the oil boom in the 80’s. He was a family man who always took care of his children, his mother, and his siblings. Ruben instilled family values to care for one another. He was known as the family member that helped all and inspired those values in everyone whose lives he touched. Ruben was the protector of the family. Later in life, Ruben resided in his home, retired, and enjoyed plant growing, He was proud of his greenhouse and all the plants he cared for daily along with his dog Gizmo and his cat named Kitty.

Ruben Herrera was survived by his former wife, Maria Herrera; children, Jeanette Rebecca Herrera Romo (Rudy Romo, Jr.), Ruben Herrera Jr. (Belidna), and Jessica Lee Herrera; 10 grandchildren, Alexander Solis, Pedro H. Portillo, Edward Lee Portillo, Esmia Herrera Smith, Ruben Izzac Herrera, Austin Longoria, Alyssa Nicole Hidalgo, Daniel Joseph Hernandez, Michael Daniel Romo, Karter Marie Herrera; three great-grandchildren, Aria Ranee Portillo, Violet Rose Portillo, Evolet Aiden Smith; and siblings, Arnulfo Herrera, Lydia Herrera Guerra (Joe Guerra), Johnny Herrera (Alicia Herrera), Severita Herrera Barrios (Antonio Barrios), Elliseo Herrera Jr. (Mary Jane Herrera), Ladislada Herrera, and Edward Duran, Jr. He is predeceased by his father, Elliseo Herrera; mother, Ladislada Casarez Herrera Garcia; sisters, Yolanda Herrera Longoria, Sylvia Herrera, and Sam Herrera; and niece, Joann Garcia Gallegos.

Before Ruben moved on to his next journey, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, Ruben in his last days created new and special memories with is family, he was in peace in his last days and was dearly loved and passed with his family at his bedside.The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
