She was born on April 12, 1920 in Marion, Illinois to Amon and Lula Buckner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, “Tex” Cameron; her son, Kirk Cameron; and her second husband of 10 years, J.E. Willingham.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamarra Moyer (husband, Larry); grandsons, David R. Moyer (wife, Nicole), Paul H. Cameron and daughter-in-law, Ann Cameron.
Tex and Ruby lived in several cities in Texas with their two children, Kirk and Tamarra. The city they resided in longest was San Antonio. They were active members of Trinity Baptist Church, where they both enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved volunteering with a ministry called “Let’s Have a Visit” for years, where she made lovely friends. Ruby was a homemaker who was quite the cook. Her family loved gathering around her table for the several course feasts she prepared, especially her “can’t be beat” fried chicken! One of her hobbies was antiquing at garage and estate sales and her house was a showpiece of her finds. Ruby also definitely had the “gift” of shopping and the salesclerks at the mall loved her and knew her by name. The last years were filled with J.E. and her regularly going to Starbucks at the North Star Mall where they made great friends with the very loving baristas. The last three years of her life she resided at Poet’s Walk, where the staff loved her like their own family and said she was a shining light to them. She was lovingly known as Ms. Ruby, Mama, and Grandma there.
She will be remembered for her kind and generous ways, her merciful heart for those hurting, being a faithful prayer warrior for her family and friends, her love for beautiful clothes – accessorizing them amazingly, her quick wit – even to the end, being “one of a kind,” her beautiful smile, and being loved by so many. She will be greatly missed, but we find great comfort that she now resides with her Savior and King of Kings and is having the biggest reunion ever with her loved ones who waited a long time to see her!
