Rudy De La Cruz

Rudy De La Cruz passed away at home with his loving wife, Josie, at his bedside in Helotes, Texas on April 7, 2026. Rudy joins his parents Revd. Manuel De La Cruz & Fernanda De La Cruz, his siblings Esther Garza, Lydia Quinonez, Hector De la Cruz and Roberto De La Cruz. He is survived by his wife, Josie De La Cruz, daughter Denise De La Cruz and son Rudy De La Cruz, Jr. He is also survived by his siblings, Revd. Manuel De La Cruz, Jr. & family, Bertha Vasques & family, Annie Diaz and Elida De La Cruz.

After Rudy’s service in the United States Air Force. Rudy had a long illustrious career at The University of Texas Health Science Center in the Department of Purchasing. Rudy retired in 2008 from UTHSCSA as Assistant Director of Purchasing, HUB Program.

Rudy loved playing his trumpet and his guitar. He played in the marching band at Tom S. Lubbock High School, Texas Tech Red Raider marching band and the US Air Force drum and bugle core. Rudy loved to spend time with his family and travel. Also loved teaching and conducted a Home Ministry Bible Study through Cornerstone Church for several years.

He loved his puppies, Joy and the incredible Shelly that was by his side during his illness until she went on to rainbow heaven.

Rudy loved cruising his 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe. His friends and family will always remember him as a gentle, kind soul and always with a smile. He was the best DAD and UNCLE to his family because he was always cheering them on at every event of their lives.

Rudy will be profoundly missed by his family and friends

Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218, US, on April 21, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and the Funeral Service will take place there on April 21, 2026, at 7:00 pm.

A Committal Service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78209, US, on April 22, 2026, at 11:15 am.
