Ruth Imogene Jennings

Ruth Imogene Jennings was called home on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at the age of 91. “Jean,” a long-time member of Pruitt Avenue Baptist Church, was a woman of conviction with a simple and strong faith in, and devotion to, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The fifth of the eleven children of Texan tenant farmers Jacob and Flonnie Dodson, she was born in Milam County. After her father died during the Great Depression, Jean was the first of the Dodsons to attend college, Mary Hardin Baylor. She and “Donald,” her husband of 58 years, then raised five children, two of whom Jean cared for while Donald served his country away in England during World War II. Jean instilled in her children the importance of education and a strong personal “constitution.” She and Donald were very proud that their children obtained post-graduate degrees, achieved success in education, business, administration, and the law, and provided well for their own children as did their ancestors, generation after generation. Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband William Donald Jennings; brother, Cecil Dodson; sisters, Mary Prescott, Alice Johnston, Leola Dodson, and Allene Stone. She is survived by her children, James B. Jennings and wife Regina, Donald P. Jennings, Steven G. Jennings and wife Tish, Nancy L. Mosheim and husband Michael, and Justice Terry Jennings and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, and Lawrence Jennings and wife Susan, Jennifer Ibarra and husband Richard, Joshua Mosheim and Erica, and Margaret, Catherine, and Thomas W.D. Jennings; brothers, J.R. and Neal Dodson; sister, Sue Pagel; and several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas 78218. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
