It will not last the night
But, ah, my foes, and oh
my friends
It gives a lovely light."
~Edna St. Vincent Millay
This was a favorite verse of our mother, Ruth La Presto, who passed away on August 1, 2011.
She was born in Ruleville, Mississippi on October 4, 1917. She graduated from Delta State Teacher's College and taught English, first in Mississippi, then later at Hot Wells Junior High in San Antonio. She loved reading and was quick to share her love of words with her students, her children and her grandchildren. She was married for over 60 years to Jasper La Presto, and traveled the world as an Air Force Officer's wife. She is survived by her loving caregiver, Rodica Bata, her older sister, Katherine Isabelle "Totsy" Ray, her three daughters, Marjorie Wells, Amy La Presto, and Ruth LaBrayere, Ruth's husband, David LaBrayere, and three grandsons, David Wells, Alec LaBrayere and Mark LaBrayere and his wife, Sarah. Ruth Burke La Presto was a Southern lady, witty and charming, and her "lovely light" will be missed.
