

In 1958, Ruth graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, where she was a member of the Redjackets and a cheerleader. After graduating she worked as a secretary in the business offices of Sears Roebuck and Co. She married in January 1961 and moved to Brownsville, TX. After the birth of her first child (son) she worked as a secretary for the McNair Clothing Manufacturer. Upon returning back to San Antonio in 1965 as a young wife and mother, she was a homemaker until 1981 when she went back to work at the corporate offices of Fox Photo as an executive secretary. When Fox Photo Corporate moved to St. Louis, MO in 1991, she was hired at USAA FSB as an administrative assistant to a bank supervisor and retired from USAA FSB in 1998. Ruth was a founding parishioner of St. Brigid’s Catholic Church and then after moving to Shavano Park, she became a founding parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Of her many interests, Ruth enjoyed nurturing her plants in her yard, playing her piano, and had a love for animals, especially dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Cantu, Jr. and a sister, Virginia “Tina” Lozano, and niece Linda “Punky” Lozano. Ruth is survived by her son; David M. Leal and his wife Katy Undlin Leal. Her daughter; Judith Leal Boehme and her husband Michael, 4 Grandchildren; Nicholas Leal, Harley Leal, Madison Leal and Michael Anthony Boehme. She is also survived by the father of her children, Henry R. Leal and numerous nephews and nieces.
