March 16, 1927 - December 4, 2020
Sidney Mae was born in Willow City, Texas on a ranch given to the family as a land grant for fighting for the independence of Texas. After graduating from Fredericksburg High School, she attended Drahawns Business School, in San Antonio. Here she met the love of her life Larry Thompson and were married for 74 years.
Sidney Mae was a woman of many talents, from Sunday School teacher, to attending square dance competitions in several states, to teaching ceramics classes, to loving to travel the beautiful United States, to winning at many slot machines and finally to mastering the accounting ledgers at the Wessely-Thompson Hardware Store. However, there was nothing more that she loved than playing cards and dominos with friends and family. She was a fabulous cook and hers was a home where all were welcome. She taught us about choices. That they define who we are. They can be the right ones or the ones that leave us with nothing and sometimes these choices can cost us more than we can even afford. Most of all, she taught us we can make a difference, through her quiet faith and generosity.
She is survived and is deeply missed by two children, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. She lived most recently at Franklin Park Alamo Heights and would like to thank all of the staff for their loving care.
A private service will be held at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church on January 9, 2021.
In lieu of cards and flowers, please donate to Laurel Height Methodist Church where she and her family were members for 50 years.
