Dear Tommy, I was very sorry to hear about Sophia's passing. I just wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Some comfort will come to you knowing that Sophia is now with the Lord resting comfortably and at peace.

Sophia was a gentle woman. She made me laugh and she calmed me. No matter how she felt, she never really told me if it was bad. Sophie was always brave and strong and a friend that you wanted to have next to you. I loved her and will miss her. I have been praying for her all these years and since she is now with God, I will keep the family in my prayers. Love to all. Linda

Sophie, 
 It's hard to think of a world without your warm smile and twinkly blue eyes. I will miss your love of family, deep faith, courage and pure goodness. The thing I always admired most about you was your ability to look at yourself and others and accept in spite of all of the quirks and foibles. I will miss your laugh and the way you were able to look gorgeous even when you were shooting us a toothy grin worthy of any possum...I will miss being able to sit down with you and resume a conversation that had ended several months before. You were the keeper of our childhood memories, you were the imp who allowed me to be myself and you were the sometimes willing and sometimes unwilling partner in our high school "deeds". 
I still remember how when the teachers would find something amiss and would ask "who did this" the answer was always, "ask Sophie and Rosi". I remember how our study sessions would always turn into parties, how you had to wear that headgear with your braces, how we tried to make tortillas and instead of putting in baking powder we used baking soda and then had to dispose of the gigantic, yellow mess before your Mom got home from town. As I recall, you held it like a flabby discus and hurled it into the cotton field behind the house. I remember our Prom, I remember our graduation, I remember how Tommy Wayne would drive us home every Friday from school, I remember the pure love that shone from his eyes when he looked at you. I remember your wedding and I remember driving down the dirt road by your parent's house when you were enormously pregnant with "Petey". I stopped to give you a ride and you grabbed your huge tummy, gave a lopsided grin and said you needed the exercise...Most of all, I remember you. 
 Since you are the first San Perlita Trojan from the class of '68 to go home, we expect you to save the rest of us seats next to you so that when we come home we can be near you. And knowing you, the stereo will be playing "Blue Velvet" and there will be cold Cokes and Fritoes and bean dip on the table.

My thoughts and prayers are with Sophie's family at this very trying time in their lives. Sophie was a neat lady and will be missed by those of us who knew her. I am sure she is in God's loving arms.

Barbara, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during your time of loss. Your sister, Sophia was a beautiful woman and fought a brave battle with breast cancer for the past 5 years. I knew Sophie best as Jean's Sister. She was a beautiful woman and will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved her. Our Grandson, Kyler, was one of Sophie's Daughter-in-law Candace's students when she was expecting the new Grandson. I am so glad she got to see him before the Lord took her up to Heaven. Just remember she will never be gone because she will always be in your hearts and some small thing that happens will bring back a special memory of her and make you smile.

I haven't known Sophie very long but it was clear that she was a solid rock in the Rains clan. She will live on through her children and grandchildren. The pain of losing her will soon be replaced by wonderful memories of her life and deeds.

Our sincere condolences for the loss of Sophi. We will always remember her and miss her.

My Dearest Sister Sophia. You went to Heaven to be with Jesus and all the other Angels and Love Ones who have passed on before you. You will be free from all pain now, you will be in happiness forever. You will always be right there with me. I love you so much. I will miss you physically, but I know you will always be with me and give me guidence. You were one of the best sisters that anyone could ever have. You saw me through the worst time of my life after losing Kenneth Wayne. Your love and strength gave me the courage to take those small steps to overcome such a huge loss. You again saw me become very happy again and I am so thankful you were here with me on that special day. You are our shining star and we will miss you so much. We know you had to go!! No more pain, no more suffering. Our family unit will always have you there with us in Spirit. You are number 4 of the 41 and Kenneth is number 10. It all started with our Dear Mom and Dad and your two numbers will always be there in line of entry into this large family of ours. In honor of You, Dear Sister and Kenneth Wayne, we will keep growing and spreading more love in our large family for many years to come. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. Your loss is great, but know that Sophie will be remembered for her courage and spirit as she fought her long, hard battle. I offer my deepest sympathy and prayers.

Tommy and family..... My heart goes out to each of you. I know all to well the pain involved when a loved one is ill and then the pain that comes with this loss. Something that helped me when Henry was so ill and with his death was what a good friend told me. She said.....We prayed for a miracle and Henry got the greatest miracle of all. He is now in GOD'S hands, as Sophia is. I think of this often and it helps heal the pain. You will never forget, but time does help the healing. May GOD be with you and your family during this time of pain. Remember the good ole times when we were all young, healthy and raising kids in Harlingen. Those were the days and we did not even realize it then. My prayers and thoughts are with you Dorothy

Sophie, I am a better person to have known you. I feel so blessed to have been able to spend so much time with your amazing family. Y'all are truly one of a kind!
