Steve was born November 13, 1949 to Gladys LaLanne and Harry S. Lynch, Sr., in San Antonio, Texas.
Steve attended St. Peter's Prince of the Apostle Parochial School, Central Catholic High School (1967), The University of Texas at Austin receiving a BBA (1971) and UTSA receiving an MBA (1985). He received certification as a CPA from The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy in 1982.
In 1970, Steve met the love of his life, Mary Anne Majewski, while both were students at UT. On July 29, 1973, they were united in marriage at St. Austin's Catholic Church. They were a devoted couple to each other celebrating 51 years of a beautiful marriage. In 1983, they moved to the beautiful Texas Hill Country and became residents of Fair Oaks Ranch.
Steve had several hobbies including golf which certainly was something he really enjoyed. He played on the Central Catholic's golf team and at San Antonio College. He and his brothers were also very involved in junior golf. He continued his love for the sport, playing with his wife & friends at Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & CC. In their younger years, he & his wife also participated in running 10k's with the San Antonio Roadrunners.
As a teenager, he developed a love for music. He mastered playing the trumpet in high school & played with the Robb London and the Rogues band in the 60's. The band had two hit singles, "Who'll Be the One" & "Funny Situation". In addition, he played many side gigs which helped him fund his way through college. Enjoying classical music & collecting fine California wine were two things prevalent in the Lynch household.
Steve was an avid Longhorn fan who enjoyed all UT sports venues. He was a Life Member of the Texas Ex Students' Association, served as a member on the Board of Governor's at Fair Oaks CC & was Chairman of the Board in 1991. In addition, he belonged to the Rotary International Chapter at FOR and was a Paul Harris Fellow. In 2010, Steve was awarded the SA Business Journal's CFO Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 1972, Steve began his career at UTHSC-SA as an entry level accountant. He worked his way up the ladder serving in many capacities including Director of Internal Audits. In 2000, President Francisco Cigarroa appointed Steve as Executive Vice President for Business Affairs & Chief Financial Officer. Upon Dr. Cigarroa's departure to become Chancellor of the UT System, Steve served in the same capacity under President William Henrich until his retirement in 2010. Steve always gave credit to his HSC TEAM. His motto was, "There is nothing we can't do together!" He found it stimulating and fascinating to work side by side with highly intelligent & motivated young individuals. He referred to them as his "bright, shining stars". Many are now serving in key roles at UT Health. Steve devoted 38 years of loyal service to the institution & they are not only colleagues but lifelong friends. Steve will be remembered as an individual & a friend who had the utmost integrity who graced & enriched countless lives.
He will be sorely missed by his wife, Mary Anne; his mother, Gladys LaLanne Lynch; brothers, Tom (Carol) & Rich (Doris); and sister, Barbara Lynch Williams (Spence). He also leaves behind his nieces, Heather Williams Vecchione (Raul) & Holly Williams Shatzer (Garrett); great nephew, David Vecchione; aunt, Corinne Robicheaux; and his loyal & faithful companion, Cromwell. He is preceded in death by his father, Harry S. Lynch, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Thomas & Agnes Lynch; and his maternal grandparents, Eugene & Bella LaLanne.
It is with sincere gratitude to Steve's many doctors & nurses, especially Dr. Sukeshi Patel Arora & her devoted staff, Luisa Arellano & Shannon Edwards; and the Infusion Team at the May's Cancer Center, particularly Debbie Hedgepeth.
