

Sue Stakes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 14, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on February 11, 1943, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Zelma Herron and Robert Kerley. Sue's life is a testament of love, faith, and family. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering devotion to those she held dear. Sue is survived by her loving husband, Robert A. Stakes; her daughters, Dana Stakes (Tom) and Kathryn Davis; her stepdaughters, Laurie Sullivan (Chris) and Cindy Bittenbinder (Tim); her brother, James Herron (Lucinda); her grandchildren, Taylor Stakes (Hope), Drew Stakes, Hannah Paige Davis, Ella Kate Davis; and her great-grandchildren, James "JT" Stakes, Cordell Stakes, Danielle Stakes.
Sue's faith in Jesus was the cornerstone of her life. She found hope and joy in her relationship with the Lord and shared her love for Him with all those around her. Her faith was a light that illuminated her path and inspired others to walk with Jesus.
Sue cherished her family and found endless joy in spending time with her loved ones. Her dedication to her husband, children, and all her grandchildren/great-grandchildren was evident in every moment and memory she shared, usually accompanied with photos. Sue was a source of unwavering support, endless love and laughter for her family. She cherished lifelong friendships with many of her high school classmates. Sue was also a proud Texan and had a deep love for her country. All those who knew her, knew she had a passion for reading as well as politics. An avid reader, she found joy in the written word.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Zelma Herron and Robert Kerley; her brothers, Wayne Kerley and Bill Kerley; and her sister, Jackie Kyle. Although she has gone ahead of us to be with her Lord and Savior, Sue's legacy continues on through her entire family.
Sue Stakes will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched. Her kindness, laughter, abounding joy, as well as her unwavering love and pride in her family will forever be remembered. Wherever she found herself, she was the life of the party and had a great story to share. A true extrovert, her infectious laugh put everyone around her at ease. While we grieve her passing, we find comfort in the knowledge that she is now rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her, living on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
