Our Beloved mother, Susan J. Opperman, passed into the arms of the Lord after a courageous 6 year struggle with breast cancer on September 25, 2004.Susan was born on September 22, 1945 in Houston, Texas, but spent the majority of her childhood in Monterrey, Mexico where she graduated from the American High School in 1963.
She was very proud of her accomplishments as an IT Systems Analyst at USAA and was with the company for over 15 years. Her real commitment, however, was being a loving and supportive mother and grandmother and giving something back to her community. Her generosity led her to become a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor.
Mom was volunteering at Camp Discovery four years after her diagnosis.
She was preceded in death by her father, Venor Gohlke and her brother, Richard Gohlke.
She is survived by her mother, Dessie Gohlke; son, Freddy Opperman; daughter, Deborah Lantz and husband, Dallas Lantz and her beloved grandchild, Austin Lantz; her sisters, Joan Ruffini and Dotty Johnson; and many dear nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society c/o Camp Discovery or Coker United Methodist Church.
