

Sylvia Pacheco Gonzales, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed from this life on May 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family by her side. Born in San Antonio on April 9, 1949, to her parents Maria del Socorro Castellano and Abigael Pacheco, Sylvia was loyal to her family, friends and her Catholic faith.
Sylvia grew up on Ruiz St., attended Bowie Elementary and Irving Middle School. In 1967, Sylvia graduated from Fox Tech High School, where she was a member of the Red Jackets. She received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio, in 1981. She devoted 24 years working at SAISD and NEISD in various roles, as a Bilingual Pre-K & Kindergarten teacher, LEAPS program teacher and Dyslexia Intervention Specialist. A majority of her career was spent at Dellview Elementary, where she was voted Teacher of the Year by her colleagues. Following her retirement, she became a full-time grandmother, a role she assumed with great joy.
Loyal to her faith, Sylvia was a parishioner at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, her home parish, where she made her Catholic confirmation and renewed her wedding vows. She was also a member of the Guadalupanos, where she formed lasting friendships. Sylvia had a deep devotion to the Holy Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
While Sylvia will be dearly missed, she leaves behind beautiful memories of her smiling, singing and dancing with her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, kindness and unconditional love.
Sylvia is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Val Gonzales, married for 55 years; her son Val Anthony Gonzales and daughter in law, Melinda; her daughter Laura Ann Pinzon and son in law, Brandon; her grandchildren Christian and Sydney Gonzales and Gabriel and Joshua Pinzon; sisters Leticia Mercado (Mario), Rosalinda Ramirez (Henry); brothers Abel Pacheco, Saul Pacheco (Pamela) and Ramon Carlos Pacheco. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Our family is grateful for the love and attention given to Sylvia by her siblings, and Carlos and Phyllis Pinzon, parents of her son-in-law, whom she and Val became fast friends with from the start and shared a love for WNBA.
The family of Sylvia wants to extend their gratitude towards Dr. Scott Ulmer and his nurse, Anita Moreno at the START Center for Cancer Care for their exceptional care.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Gonzales, Sydney Gonzales, Gabriel Pinzon, Joshua Pinzon, Nick Amaro, Javier Amaro, Melissa Aguillon, Catherine Canada, Abel John Pacheco, Mike Hernandez, Letty Romero, Melissa Garza and Patricia Pixley.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 6 – 7 pm on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary- McCullough. A mariachi serenade will be held by Las Coronelas at 6 pm, followed by the rosary at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, located at 10703 Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78230 on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The family will hold a private interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
