Thomas Jefferson Jackson, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy built on love, dedication, and quiet strength. Born with an adventurous spirit and a determination to build a meaningful life, Thomas - known affectionately as Pop to his children, Grandpa to his grandchildren, and a proud Marine to everyone else - lived each chapter of his life with purpose and heart.
Thomas served in the United States Marine Corps for 13 years, a period that shaped his character and introduced him to the love of his life. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he met the woman who would become his wife and steadfast companion for the next 63 years. Together, they traveled across the United States as his work took them from place to place, creating a life rich in love, resilience, and memories.
After his military service, Thomas worked as a Telephone Cable Splicer, a career he dedicated himself to until retirement. Never one to sit idle, he took on numerous secondary jobs throughout his life - always making sure his family was cared for, always willing to do what needed to be done. His work ethic was quiet but unwavering, a reflection of the steady, dependable man he was.
Long before computers became household fixtures, Thomas was fascinated by technology. He dove into the world of computing in its early days, always eager to explore, learn, and tinker. In this, as in many things, he was ahead of his time. Thomas was also known for his dry wit and a well-timed sarcastic remark - traits that endeared him to those around him.
Above all, Thomas cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud Marine, and a grandfather. Though he wasn't one to show his emotions easily, his love for his family ran deep, and they never doubted it.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie (Campbell) and Clarence Jackson, as well as his son, James “Jimmy” Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Setsu Jackson; daughters, Jennie Russell and husband Kent and Mary Lou Jackson; grandchildren, Alyssa, Austin, Meghan, Nathaniel, Thomas Gregory, Jonathan, Jaclyn; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members and friends. He leaves behind a family that will forever be grateful for his guidance, his humor, and his unwavering presence. His life was one of quiet service - to his country, to his family, and to the values he lived by every day.
