Thomas was born on July 1, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Sarah Louise Miller and Thomas Edward Leggett, Sr. Raised in San Antonio and Beaumont, Thomas was the eldest of three siblings. He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Edward Thomas Leggett, III, and sister, Sharon Hope Foster.
Thomas's life was enriched by his marriage to JoAnne Davis. Together, they raised two children, Virginia Leggett Jackson and Matthew Thomas Leggett, who continue to reside in San Antonio. Thomas's legacy is further carried on by his four adoring grandchildren: Kiley Michelle Leggett, Keren Rose Jackson, Rene Esi Jackson, and Hannah Ekua Jackson.
Thomas's academic journey took him to Lamar University, where his studies were interrupted when he was drafted into the Army in 1971 and stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He served his country with honor in Korea during the Vietnam War, earning a National Defense Service Medal and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal before his honorable discharge in 1973.
A man of simple pleasures, Thomas found joy in playing bingo and dominoes, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and spending quality time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him as a kind and virtuous man. Thomas Edward Leggett, Jr.'s life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, and service, and he will be deeply missed.
